General Meetings
Our meetings are held the 4th Monday of the month starting at 7:30 pm…..all are welcome so why not bring a guest.  Lets try and fill the room each month.
Greetings to all: March 2008

The past 3 months have been very busy for the new executive. This will be a year of transition and change as we move forward to secure a solid future for the SCG&F. Our club has aged and now sits at just over 236 members. Only a portion of which are currently active in club projects.

We are seeking new members ( and new blood) so we may remain a positive force in the outdoor community.

Memberships: Single $20 Family $25

From the Prez:

Dagmar Miller has graciously agreed to chair the "Kid’s Day of Fishing  for another year. Plan on attending or providing a helping hand on Saturday May 3 , rain or shine. With over 600 young anglers each year, we continue to rely on the generosity of the community to ensure a memorable day. Do you know of a business that may be interested in supporting this great event?

Volunteers and benefactors can leave their contact information at 905-937-6335. Jason Pusikiw (fishing4me) and Brandon DeSantis (Bluetop) have kept the cabin fever at bay for many anglers this winter by organizing a one day shore derby every month. Check our tournament page for details on the Peter Lee Memorial Derby March 28th. Congratulations to both of you for your efforts and raising some money for Kid’s Day in the process.

The SCG&F will be selling memberships, derby tickets and seasonal ramp passes at
Peter’s Tackle and Live Bait Saturday April 5 . Angela will be providing customers and friends with a Bar-B-Que, collecting donations for the Kid’s Day of Fishing fund.

The St. Catharines Game and Fish Association will benefit from the launch of the new Thundermist lures March 20th. Details of how you can participate and support the venture are detailed below. Go to www.thundermistlures.com today and join for free. When the new line of lures is revealed and you decide to make a purchase, use the club discount code. You save and raise funds for our annual free Kid's Day of Fishing.
"Thundermist has established a special discount code for you & your club members (and their family & friends can use this as well). The private discount code is SGFA . This code will be valid for only 3 weeks, starting on March 20th (the day of our launch) (expiring on April 10th). There will be 20% off as a discount for your members (and friends) & then 10% of total net sales (taken from your code) as a donation to your club for Kid's Day.

How it would work is as follows: On March 20th your members can go to our main site, www.thundermistlures.com and see our lure selection. We will have an on-line store there & when your members are ready to check out, there will be an area to input a "coupon code". They will then type in SGFA in the coupon code area & a 20% discount will then be applied. After 3 weeks, the coupon code will no longer be valid & we can then summarize the total sales made using that code. We will then take 10% of that total & make a donation to your club."
Give everyone you meet a "better  day.
Jerry Mitrovich
President

On January 7 . The G&F participated in a successful one day ice fishing seminar at the CAW hall presented by outdoors columnist, Joe Montgomery. At the present. The SCG&F will not take a stand on the "Port Towers  issue. This leaves members free to support their own personal position. We will await further details from the OMB hearing.

The N.P.C.A. has fishing diaries available for 2008. Our participation is urgently being sought.
Information from these diaries are used to help formulate policy on various watersheds. We need to represent our interest. Diaries are available through the G&F secretary or the N.P.C.A. Two watersheds are being studied: the Welland River system and the 12 Mile Creek Watershed.

One dock was left in the water for the winter. The remaining docks are being rebuilt. They will
be in the water and operational for the opening of the Spring Salmon Derby on April 5 .
Rates: Daily $10 Season, member $110 Season, non-member $150
It pays to be a member!

The Derby will begin on April 5 , as previously mentioned. Top prize will again be $3000. If the weather remains cold, the bite could be slow for a couple of weeks. The members derby will
close on July 27 . Tickets: Single $25 Family $30

Peter’s Tackle will be having an open house April 4-6th. Come and see us on the Saturday.
Check out the flyer. On Sunday, April 6 ., the SCG&F will be participating in the 2008 Niagara Outdoors Show being held at the Optimist Hall, Morrison St., Niagara Falls, 9am to 3pm. Stop by and say hello. Pick up your membership and derby tickets at the show. You don’t have to travel to Toronto.

The OFAH has reported a very successful hatch at Ringwood, and are anticipating a surplus.
President Jerry is planning a work party trip to the hatchery in the near future. If interested, he
can be reached by club e-mail ( st.catharinesgamefishasso@bellnet.ca ) or phone (905-937-6335).

Your next bulletin, and the minutes of the general meetings, will be available on the internet
through the G&F website. The rising costs of printing and mail make this step necessary. Current
cost to mail the bulletin to all members is $600 every 2-3 months. For those without e-mail access, we can provide 2 options. We can mail the bulletin to you at a cost of $15 prepaid annually, or copies will be available at the clubhouse. We hope to publish March, June, September, December. Submissions are always welcome by the 10th of the issue month.

Reminder! We are the stewards of our outdoor heritage, now ,and for future generations. It’s up
to us to use it wisely or lose it for the future.
